Response to Senator Hanson
Following Senator Pauline Hanson’s comments in the Federal Senate, Claire Cotter (CEO) contacted 3AW Melbourne with the following statement:
As the CEO of the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre in Glen Waverley, on behalf of the 140 families associated with this Centre, I wish to add our disgust at the ill-informed and destructive comments made by Pauline Hanson. We are disgusted that a Federal member of Parliament should express these unbalanced and unqualified opinions which only further isolate and discriminate against some of the most vulnerable people in our community. While there are challenges in the education system, there are many, many schools doing a fabulous job educating all the students in their classrooms, including those with disabilities, with benefits for everyone. We support all the hard work done by professionals at all levels to educate and provide equal opportunity and a fair go to all young people. Let’s look for more problem solving and solutions instead of casting doubt and blame. Her views have the potential to set back the rights of people with disabilities by 30 or 40 years.
