boardBoard of Directors

CPEC’s Board of Directors is comprised of a majority of parents whose children attend our Centre. We consider this important as it ensures our organisation’s direction always remains relevant to the people we support.

Chairperson: Tom Kennedy

Tom is currently employed as an IT Team Leader for the National Australia Bank and has spent 30 years working within the banking industry for the National Australia Bank as an IT specialist, as well as undertaking various other roles in customer banking. Tom holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting).  Tom’s daughter, Brooke, has early onset generalised dystonia and has attended CPEC’s therapy programs since she was 2 years old.

Vice President: Peter Yates

Peter is CPEC’s Quality & Safeguards Manager.  He has a background in project engineering, contract procurement, over 20 years in the Not-For-Profit Industry Sector and was CEO of a NFP for over 10 years.

Treasurer: Lawrence Abbey

Lawrence Abbey is a financial services professional, with 35 years of experience working in bank and corporate treasuries, also in consulting and insurance.  Lawrence started his career in London before migrating to Australia, where he has works in a bank’s Group Treasury.  His son, James, receives therapy services from CPEC.  Lawrence is a keen musician, avid reader and a disability advocate.

Secretary: Claire Cotter

Claire is the Chief Executive Officer of CPEC, a senior Occupational Therapist, and one of CPEC’s original founders.

General Member: Kate Breuer

Kate has a background in scientific research and policy development.  Kate’s daughter attended CPEC’s early intervention groups for several years and currently attends their extended education program.  Her daughter is supported by CPEC therapists at school.  Kate has a passion to improve the life of people living with a disability through advocacy and education.

General Member:  Dr Andrew Tucker Ph.D

Andrew (Andy) is a Research & Development executive in the health and life sciences technology sector; managing industry-led research programs, technology development and commercialisation, in the areas of sleep health, wellness, workplace safety and human performance. Andy also holds an academic appointment at the Turner Institute of Brain and Mental Health, Monash University. Andy’s youngest son Oliver receives therapy services from CPEC.

Andy bring a wealth of family experience to the CPEC board.

General Member: Michele Burns

Michele has 35 years of experience in Human Resources Management mainly in the automotive manufacturing and high tech (Broadcast) industries.

She is qualified as a CELTA Certified teacher of English as a Second Language, has a Graduate Certificate in Training and Evaluation (Vocation Education), is a qualified Internal Auditor, and holds Certificate IV in Training and Evaluation.   Michele has a passion working with and supporting children with a disability.

General Member: Sue Kennedy

Sue is the Business & Finance Manager of CPEC, and is responsible for enhancing the internal organisation processes and infrastructure and assists in setting the financial policy and direction of the organisation’s overall strategy. This includes financial administration, business planning and budgeting and working closely with the CEO. Sue holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting).

General Member: Matthew Yates

Matthew is a physiotherapist with 15 years experience working with children and families living with cerebral palsy.  Matthew is currently the NDIS Manager and Senior Physiotherapist and is undertaking his MBA at Deakin University.

Matthew bring a clinical and healthcare perspective to the board and is a member of the Australian Institute of Managers and Leaders.

General Member: David Payne

David works in the ICT Industry and has worked across various corporate entities and SME’s over his 15 years in the industry. His daughter Sophie has complex issues and has been receiving treatment at CPEC since she has been 18 months of age.

David bring a parent and family perspective to the board decision making.

General Member: Derek Lark

Derek is a senior executive with over 40 years’ experience.  He has worked at the top level of organisations including CEO and Director.  With over 16 years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector running a small company he has extensive knowledge of all aspects of general management and corporate governance.

His special subject of interest is business model innovation and strategic planning.  He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Master of Business Administration and holds a Bachelor of Engineering.
