School Training Workshops

CPEC presents free annual workshops on supporting children in mainstream schools. They are relevant to school staff and anyone else working or caring for students with cerebral palsy.

This workshop series is a joint initiative of CPEC and the Department of Education and Training (Victoria).

Teaching Movement for Communication (5 Day) Workshop

This intensive five day workshop will provide participants with an in depth opportunity to explore the movement differences associated with cerebral palsy, other significant neurological movement impairments (eg Rett Syndrome, Prader Willi Syndrome), and severe sensory processing challenges. There will be a focus on identifying these posture and movement challenges in relation to their impact on communication development, assessment and intelligibility.

PODD Introductory (2-Day) Workshop

Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) books are a comprehensive communication system used by people with complex communication needs.

The ‘Introductory workshop’ gives a practical introduction to the PODD resource, and provides strategies to support the design, production and implementation of this communication system to enable genuine communication in all environments. No prior experience with PODD is necessary.

PODD Alternative Access (1-Day) Workshop

The PODD ‘Alternative Access Workshop’ builds on the knowledge gained from the Introductory Workshop and discusses the use of PODD for individuals who can’t access it by pointing with their hands and therefore require ‘alternative access’ methods.

PODD for Speech Generating Devices (1-Day) Workshop

The focus of this workshop is the design features of PODD page sets to suit speech generating devices. Completion of the PODD Introductory Workshop is a pre-requisite for undertaking this course.

PODD Advanced (5-Day) Workshop

This Advanced PODD workshop is for people who have completed a two day PODD Introductory workshop and are now seeking to further develop their knowledge and skill. Upon completion of the workshop, participants may also choose to apply for certification to present PODD Introductory Workshops.
